Mahonia and berberis have also been planted to provide berries for both human & wildlife consumption, while corkscrew, common osier, purple and goat willows offer material for traditional hobbies and crafts. The staggered laying of hedges provides not only important traditional habitat for wildlife but also ample kindling and pea sticks. The soil is also suitable for hardy vegetables and Brssicas have been grown successfully here.
