Fox Grant Dot Com continues their flying form with a win in the national championship qualifier with a confident round over the undulating track which included a number of new challenges. With Yvonne Goss and Jaffa giving their usual strong lead, the winning team made nothing of the early hedges and flew over a tricky dog-leg from a hulking log to a triple bar. Running uphill, they then tackled four new hedges in and out of the paddock. The first hedge had a big drop followed by three strides to the second, and then a switchback to another double of hedges over more steep contours.
Phil Nichols, Anna Stone and William Grant popped them neatly behind Yvonne before lining up for huge leaps over one of the feature fences – a wide hedge with an open ditch in front on the hilltop. William and Skipper Robin tailed off towards the end, but the others got a great line to the pen before swinging fast to the final substantial hedge. “Skipper Robin is only on his second outing so I didn’t want to push him too hard, but we were there if we were needed” said William.
