The Malverns are situated on the slopes of the dramatic Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The main town is Great Malvern, which rose to fame as a Spa town in the 19th Century and its natural mineral water is still bottled and exported world wide today (from Colwall village). Much of the town’s Victorian architecture still remains, a particular example being the ornate Railway Station, which links to Birmingham New Street and London Paddington. The Medieval Priory and Abbey Gateway which lie at the heart of the town are also noted for their fine architectural qualities.
Today the cosmopolitan town has a wealth of independent shops, galleries and restaurants. Malvern also has a renowned theatre which adjoins the beautiful Priory Park Gardens. The town has built a strong reputation for its quality of independent schools including Malvern St James and Malvern College. Situated 8 miles west of the M5, Malvern is well placed for the conurbations of Birmingham and Worcester but has excellent road/rail links to the rest of the country.
The scenery surrounding The Malverns is amongst the most stunning and unspoilt in the British Isles and has been the inspiration to many authors, composers and artists including Sir Edward Elgar, George Bernard Shaw, John Masefield and CS Lewis. Malvern is also famous for the Morgan Motor Car, which is still in production in the town today and is now celebrating 100 years of production.
The area offers a wealth of recreational opportunities and The Malvern Hills, which extend for over 9 miles, are particularly popular with visitors and residents alike. The Three Counties Show Ground situated a mile from the town hosts a wide variety of year round events from National Gardens Shows, antique fairs to agricultural & equestrian events.
