The thriving market town of Ledbury, which derives it’s named from the River Leadon, is situated in fabulous unspoilt Herefordshire countryside characterised by traditional orchards and hop fields. The town nestles below the Malvern Hills and is at the centre of the Three Counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire. Ledbury is often referred to as the ‘gateway to the west’ and is the perfect starting point for exploring the Hereford Marches & Welsh borders. Black-and-white half-timbered buildings abound in the old town, centred on the 17th century Market House which is still regularly used today for market trading.
Ledbury has a sophisticated clientele who appreciate the upmarket blend of delicatessens, antique shops, traditional butchers and high quality greengrocers as well as several galleries, craftsmen, a gunsmith and country clothing specialist. The Feathers Hotel & The Talbot Hotel are good examples of 16th Century coaching Inns and there are plenty of other well respected restaurants and attractive pubs in the to town and surrounding area. Ledbury is famous for its great literary writers such as John Masefield and Elizabeth Barret Browning, whose elegant childhood home “Hope End” is located just outside the town at Wellington Heath. The town today hosts a highly successful annual Literary Festival celebrating these connections.
Ledbury is within 10 minutes of the motorway network (junction 2, M50), the A417 provides good access via Swindon to the east. London is less than 2½ hours, Cheltenham and Worcester 40 minutes, with Hereford 20 minutes to the west. Birmingham and Bristol are both within about an hour of the town via the good M50/M5 motorway network.
