Stockbridge is on the River Test, in the Test Valley district and renowned for trout fishing.  Stockbridge was once considered a town and was given the right to hold a market by 1190, and elected two members to the unreformed House of Commons from the 1560s.  The Reform Act 1832 abolished it as a rotten borough.  Stockbridge had a railway station on the Andover & Redbridge Railway (known as the Sprat and Winkle Line), later part of the LSWE.  This closed in 1967.  It is a pretty place with lots of shopping opportunities, particularly if you like antiques.

Communications The A30 road goes through the town, which once carried most of the traffic from London to the South West. However, today most of the traffic uses the A303 road to the north of Stockbridge.  There are excellent communication links to Winchester, Romsey, Andover, Salisbury and Southampton.  Mainline trains to London are located at Winchester and Grateley.  Southampton and Bournemouth International Airports are also easily accessible.

Schools There are a number of primary schools in Stockbridge and a secondary school Sparsholt College is located just outside the village with excellent public schools in Winchester such as Winchester College and Sevenoaks School.  There are also very good universities in Winchester and Southampton.

Landscape The clear waters of the chalk stream of the River Test are particularly well renowned for its trout fishing. The River Test flows for twenty miles in Hampshire through the villages of Stocksbridge and Romsey.  The villages of Chilbolton, Wherwell and Longparish are located near the river and are well worth a visit.
