The New Forest is Britain’s newest National Park and is a unique area of historical, ecological and agricultural significance which retains many of the rural practices conceded by the Crown in historical times to local people. It is the eighth national park in England, the first in the south-east of England and the first to be created for nearly 50 years. The National Park lies mainly in south-west Hampshire – from east of the Avon Valley to Southampton Water and from the Solent coast to the edge of the Wiltshire chalk downs
Communications The New Forest has excellent access to the major conurbations of Southampton and Bournemouth/Poole. The former is served by the M3 and M27 motorways from the north and east respectively. The M27 then becomes the A31 trunk road and cuts across the New Forest to Bournemouth, Poole and the West. Bournemouth and Southampton International Airports are easily accessible. Mainline trains to London can be accessed at Southampton, Bournemouth and Brockenhurst.
Schools There are a number of primary and secondary schools in The New Forest along with Brockenhurst College. Excellent private schools can be found in Salisbury and near Romsey. Salisbury also has both girls and boys grammar schools.
