Fordingbridge is a small country town on the banks of the River Avon. It was recorded in the Domesday Book and derives its name from ‘Forde’ and ‘Bridge’. The first Great Bridge, build in medieval times, is up stream from the ford is a major feature of the town with its seven graceful arches. Fordingbridge boasts many trades such as brickmaking, pottery and textiles. The town has developed into a wonderful place for visitors with its beautiful scenery, nature havens and cycleways.
Communications Fordingbridge has excellent communication links to the south coast, Bournemouth, Southampton and Salisbury. Bournemouth International Airport is within 10 miles and mainline trains to London can be caught in either Salisbury or Bournemouth.
Schools There are several Infant schools and a secondary school in Fordingbridge, along with excellent public schools such as Leaden Hall, Godolphin and Chafyn Grove in Salisbury, approximately 20 minutes away.
Landscape Fordingbridge is situated close to The New Forest National Park, a unique area of historical, ecological and agricultural significance which retains many of the rural practices conceded by the Crown in historical times to local people. The picturesque villages of Breamore, Rockbourne and Redlynch are all nearby.
